Can I connect an Instagram Personal Profile in Sprout?
No, as of October 2024, Meta's API does not support any functionality for Personal profiles. In order to connect an Instagram profile in Sprout, it will need be listed as either the Creator or Professional/Business Account Type.
What is an Instagram Professional Account?
Professional accounts on Instagram can either be set to Professional Business or Creator.
- Professional Business accounts are best for retailers, local businesses, brands, organizations and service providers.
- Creator accounts are best for public figures, content producers, artists and influencers.
Setting up a professional business or creator account gives you access to features to help you grow your account, monetize, create ads, understand your growth, and manage your messages.
How do I convert a Personal profile to a Professional Account?
- Using the Instagram mobile application, go to your profile and tap the
at the upper-right corner of the display.
- Tap Account Type and Tools.
- Tap Switch to Professional Account.
- Select your business in the Which Best Describes You modal.
- Select Business or Creator in the "Are you a creator?" section.
- Make the category selection for your profile.

Which connection type do I choose in Sprout for my profile?
After selecting Instagram as the network you would like to connect, you will be presented with two options for the credentials used to establish the connection in Sprout:
- Connect via Meta Business Suite Credentials
- Connect via Instagram Credentials

Which should I choose?
Choose Connect via Meta if you are an agency or large team that requires granular, multi-user access control.
Choose Connect via Instagram if you want a simpler setup, do not use Facebook Pages, or want to avoid the 3-month reauthorization cycle. Please consult this article for more information

Connect via Meta Credentials
The steps below will guide you through the actions to take in Sprout in order to connect an Instagram profile that fits the following criteria:
- The Instagram profile is either the Professional Account Type or Creator Account Type
- The Instagram profile is linked to a corresponding Facebook Page
- The individual connecting the Instagram Profile has been assigned proper access to the Facebook page connected to this Instagram profile
Connecting a "Facebook-Linked" Instagram Profile in Sprout
- In Sprout, navigate to Account and settings > Connect a Profile.
- Click Instagram, then select Connect via Meta
- Select either the Creator or Business Profile Account Type
- Confirm that you have completed the steps for converting your Instagram account to a Business Profile. If you have completed these steps, select Yes, all set.
- On the next page, click Go to Facebook.
- Confirm you are logged into the correct Facebook profile that has access to manage the Page linked to the Instagram profile you are looking to connect.

Review and ensure you've granted Sprout Social the ability to request access to the corresponding Meta Business Portfolio, linked Facebook page, and the Instagram profile
- Once you Save these access permissions and return to Sprout, you will be prompted to select a Connection Method for your profile:
- via Business Manager (admin credentials)
- via Business Manager System User (configuring a Sprout-Specific system user)
- via Page Admin Access (legacy option)
- Select the Connection Method that best suites your needs. From there you should see the Instagram profiles listed that you would like to add to your Sprout account.
- After selecting the corresponding profiles, click Add profile(s)
- Update the the Group and Permissions access as necessary and then click Save.
How do I connect a Facebook Page to my Instagram Profile?

Connect via Instagram Credentials
Please consult this article for more information on connecting an Instagram profile using Instagram Credentials. The steps below will guide you through the actions to take in Sprout in order to connect an Instagram profile that fits the following criteria:
- The Instagram profile is either the Professional or Creator Account Type
- The individual connecting the Instagram Profile has either one of the following:
- The username + password to log into this profile directly in Instagram
- Full Access to the Business Portfolio that owns the Instagram profile or has been granted Partner Access to the Instagram profile within Meta Business Suite

Connecting an Instagram Profile in Sprout via Instagram
- In Sprout, navigate to Account and settings > Connect a Profile.
- Click Instagram, then select Connect via Instagram
- Select either the Creator or Business Profile Account Type
- Confirm that you have completed the steps for converting your Instagram account to a Business Profile. If you have completed these steps, select Yes, all set.
- On the next page, click Go to Instagram.
- If you are already logged into a Meta Business Suite as user with access to an Instagram profile, you will see that you are logged into Facebook by default. You can update the account you are logged into by clicking your profile in the top right corner of this window
- If you prefer to establish the connection from your Facebook login, proceed with selecting the corresponding Business Portfolio with access to the intended Instagram profile. Please note you will need to have Full Access to the intended Business Portfolio to continue with this option.
- Select the Instagram profile from the next dropdown
- Click Next and Confirm. You may be prompted to enter a two-factor code texted to the phone number listed for your Facebook profile.
- After authorizing the Business Portfolio through this connection flow, you can click done and then return to Sprout to select your Instagram profiles for the connection.

Alternatively, if you want to connect via your Instagram profile credentials and not your Facebook login, click the profile image shown in the top right corner. You can either switch into your Instagram profile or select Add another account to log out and log into Instagram profile.
- Once you are logged into your Instagram profile, you will see the option to grant access to your Business Portfolio, Instagram Account, and Ad Accounts.

- You will return to Sprout and can then select the specific profile you are going to add to your account.
