Listening Demographics Tab Deprecation - August 2026

Table of Contents

This feature is only available for Social Listening customers.

On August 3, 2026, the Demographics tab will be removed from all current and future Listening Topics.

Why is this change occurring?

In early 2026, X removed message-level location data from its API. As a result, the Locations Map and Locations Overview widgets within Listening Topics have shown little to no data since. Due to the fact that no other supported social network currently provides message-level location data at scale, Sprout has made the decision to remove this tab in Listening.

What's changing?

  • The Demographics tab will be removed from all Listening Topics starting on August 3, 2026
  • The Locations Map and Locations Overview widgets previously available in this tab will be removed from Sprout with no replacement.
  • The Profile Overview widget will move to the Conversation tab, where it remains fully functional.

How can I save my historical location data?

If you rely on historical location data, we would recommend that you export the Locations Overview widget CSV for your Listening Topics before August 3, 2026. Location data collected from X before January 2026 will remain accessible in-app and via the Public API until this deprecation is complete.

Do these changes only impact Sprout Social?

This change affects all Listening customers with Topics access and is not unique to Sprout; it reflects an industry-wide API limitation affecting all social listening vendors.

Why can't I see demographics data for X in Reporting or in Listening?

Gender, age, and location data are not made directly available via X's API. This is true for the Follower data available for your connected profiles within Reporting, as well as the message-level data available for X within Sprout’s Listening feature.

This means we are unable to provide an X Demographics tab within the profile-level reporting available for X in Sprout. This will also mean that we are unable to provide message-level Demographics data or location tracking within Listening Topics since this data is not made available by any of our supported network sources in Listening.
