Tracking Reposts in Sprout Listening

Overview

Social Listening tracks millions of conversations across social networks. To deliver cleaner, actionable insights without duplicate message noise, Sprout aggregates reposts from X and Bluesky as rolled-up metrics attached directly to the original parent post. This architecture ensures your volume, sentiment, keyword weight, and potential impressions reflect full viral reach while keeping your Message Explorer focused on original content.

What You Can Do

• Streamline Message Discovery: View unique, original posts in Message Explorer without scrolling past identical repost cards.
• Analyze Share Breakdown: Toggle between original message volume and repost volume in the Topic Insights Volume Chart.
• Control Topic Volume Scaling: Customize whether repost metrics are included in total Topic volume directly within Query Builder.
• Evaluate Virality: Sort messages in Message Explorer by the Shares metric to instantly spot top-performing posts.
• Capture Meaningful Context: Review quote posts as independent messages in your stream to track commentary and audience reactions.

Configuring Repost Volume in Query Builder

1. Navigate to Listening > Topics.
2. Create a new Topic or edit an existing Topic to open the Query Builder.
3. Below the query builder canvas, locate the Include Reposts in Volume toggle.
4. Switch the toggle on to include repost counts in total volume, sentiment weight, and keyword clouds, or switch it off to calculate metrics solely from original posts.
5. Click Save Topic.

Viewing Repost Breakdowns in Topic Insights

1. Open any standard Listening Topic and navigate to the Performance tab.
2. In the Volume widget, you will see a breakdown for Post Volume vs Repost Volume

Finding Viral Content in the Messages Tab

1. Navigate to the Messages tab within your Topic.
2. Click the configuration icon in the top right corner of the widget and ensure Reposts and Shares are included as metrics
3. Click to sort either the Reposts or Shares metric from highest to lowest
4. Sprout surfaces the original parent posts with the highest combined repost and share metrics.
