Snapchat Publishing: Stories and Spotlights FAQs
Table of Contents
Q: Do I need a special Snapchat account type to connect to Sprout?
A: Yes. Only Snapchat Public Profiles are supported. Personal Snapchat accounts cannot be connected to Sprout. If you're not sure whether your account is a Public Profile, visit business.snapchat.com to check or set one up.
Q: Can I delete a Snapchat Spotlight or Story from within Sprout?
A: No. Deleting a published Spotlight or Story is not currently supported through Sprout. This is a Snapchat API limitation — no delete endpoint is available for content published through the Public Profile API. To delete a Spotlight or Story, you must do so natively in the Snapchat app.
Q: I published a Snapchat Spotlight through Sprout and it's not showing on the Snapchat website yet. Was it sent successfully?
A: If Sprout shows your Spotlight as successfully sent, it was received by Snapchat. There is a known propagation delay between when a Spotlight goes live on the Snapchat mobile app and when it appears on the Snapchat web profile. This is caused by slightly different backend paths between the mobile and web versions of Snapchat. If it's visible in the app, it will appear on the web within a few minutes.
Q: What are the video requirements for publishing Snapchat Spotlights from Sprout?
A: Spotlights require vertical video in 9:16 aspect ratio (minimum 3:4), MP4 or MOV format with H.264 encoding, minimum 540×960px resolution (1080×1920px recommended), and a maximum file size of 1 GB. The recommended duration is 5–60 seconds for optimal Spotlight distribution, though the API accepts up to 300 seconds.
Q: Can I publish images to Snapchat Spotlight from Sprout?
A: No. Snapchat Spotlights are a video-only format. Image posts to Spotlight are not supported via the Snapchat API.
Q: Can I cross-post a Snapchat Spotlight or Story to other networks at the same time?
A: Yes. You can select Snapchat alongside other networks (such as TikTok or Instagram) in a single Compose session to publish simultaneously.
Q: Is Snapchat reporting or analytics available in Sprout?
A: Not yet. Snapchat analytics and reporting will be available in a future Sprout release later this year
Q: How is a Snapchat Story different from a Snapchat Spotlight?
A: A Snapchat Spotlight is a permanent, publicly discoverable short-form video indexed for non-followers, similar to a TikTok or Instagram Reel. A Snapchat Story is a collection of Snaps visible to followers and profile visitors. While standard Stories expire after 24 hours, brands with public profiles can save them to Highlights or, with a Snapchat+ subscription, customize expiration settings between 1 hour and 1 week.
