Reddit is a goldmine for organic conversation, but its massive scale can often make finding the "signal in the noise" a challenge. To help you focus on the discussions that matter most to your brand, Sprout provides Advanced Subreddit Capabilities within the Listening Query Builder.
Whether you need to monitor a dedicated brand community, exclude irrelevant high-volume subreddits, or capture every single mention from a specific niche, these granular controls give you total mastery over your Reddit data ingestion.
How it Works
You can target your Listening search with three powerful options in Query Builder Channels:
- Isolate Key Communities: Limit your keyword queries to a specific list of subreddits (e.g., focus only on r/Computers or r/Technology).
- Filter Out the Noise: Exclude specific subreddits that create irrelevant data for your brand, ensuring your Topics remain clean and actionable.
- Stream All Data: For your most critical communities, you can now choose to ingest every single post and comment from a subreddit, regardless of whether they match your keyword query.

- Precision Reporting: By excluding high-noise subreddits, your sentiment and trend analysis will reflect the true voice of your target audience.
- Never Miss a Beat: "Stream All Data" ensures that even if a customer doesn't use your brand name explicitly, you still capture the context of their conversation within your brand's subreddit.
- Effortless Setup: Our Autocomplete Validation helps you quickly find and add the correct subreddits to your query without manual errors.
How to Get Started
- Open any Listening Topic and navigate to Query Builder, then Channels.
- In the Reddit section, use the new fields to Include or Exclude subreddits.
- To capture every message from a community, toggle the All Data switch for that specific subreddit.
- Note: Using "All Data" can significantly increase message volume.
Alternatively, you can limit messages to specific Subreddits, as well as limit to "Query Only"
Permissions & Access
- This feature is available to all customers with the Advanced Listening Add-on.
- Users must have Manage Listening Topics permissions to update Query Builder settings.
