A Reddit note on exports and APIs:
When engaging with Reddit in Sprout, there are a few restrictions to be aware of as a result of Reddit's API partner terms. Note that these are Reddit-mandated requirements that apply to all API partners:
Reddit messages in the Smart Inbox cannot be exported via CSV, PDF and email. Reddit messages are not available in Sprout's Public API Messages Endpoint. Reddit messages cannot be sent to third-party CRMs, including Salesforce Service Cloud, Zendesk, HubSpot, and others.
Please note: Sprout’s product team plans to build a compliant solution to support Reddit CRM workflows later this year.
How-to Connect a Reddit Account:
- Navigate to your Settings
- Click Connect a Profile
- Click the Connect button on the Reddit tile
-
Select the type of Reddit profile you want to connect (User Profile or Moderated Subreddit)
-
Authorize Sprout Social on Reddit
- Log In to Reddit
-
Click Allow
- (For moderated subreddits) select the subreddits you’d like to add to Sprout
Engage with posts and comments in the Smart Inbox:
Within the Smart Inbox, you can view Reddit posts and comments received within your connected subreddit all in one location! Use the Sources Filter to select the connected subreddit(s) whose posts and comments you want to see.
Keep in mind, both a moderated subreddit and Reddit user account connection are required to be able to see incoming messages, as well as reply to those messages received within your connected subreddit. Each connection will have its own purpose:
- Subreddit connection = your data source. This tells Sprout to pull in posts and comments from that specific subreddit into the Smart Inbox.
- User profile connection = your reply identity. This allows your team to take action—like replying, upvoting, hiding, or deleting content.
Essentially, the subreddit brings the conversation in, and the user profile lets you engage with it!

A note on “hides” - When you hide a post or comment in Sprout, it is removed from public view on Reddit as if hiding it directly in Reddit's native moderation tools. Reddit's hide action is reversible: you can unhide a message in Sprout at any time, and it will be restored on Reddit just as it would be if you took that action natively.
Reddit natively surfaces three moderation states — pending, approved, and removed — but because visibility is ultimately binary (a post is either visible to the public or it isn't), Sprout simplifies this to hidden and unhidden. Hiding a message in Sprout removes it from public view on Reddit; unhiding restores it, regardless of whether it was pending or approved beforehand.
Engage with posts and comments in Cases:
- Click into the case and you’ll land on the Case Activity tab
- Switch over to the Conversation tab to view and respond to the original message
- Type your reply
-
Click Send (if you want to close the case at the same time, use the dropdown and select Send and Close)
