How do I set up SproutLink in bio?

Table of Contents

SproutLink makes your Instagram posts clickable by turning your Instagram grid into a customizable landing page—called a SproutLink site—where each post can feature a unique link. This helps you drive traffic to specific web pages, boost engagement, and streamline your Instagram publishing process.

With SproutLink, you can:

  • Automatically create trackable links for each Instagram post.
  • Add links while scheduling new posts in Sprout.
  • Retroactively add links to previously published Instagram posts.
  • Monitor clicks and engagement on each individual link.

Using SproutLink enhances your Instagram marketing strategy by making it easier to manage link sharing, increase conversions, and save time with integrated publishing workflows.

You can fully customize your public SproutLink in Bio site from the SproutLink in Bio tab in Sprout. You can control the branding, layout, and URL for the link page that connects your Instagram audience to your content, products, or website.

Getting started: Create your SproutLink site

For each Instagram profile connected to Sprout, you can build a unique SproutLink site.

To create and customize your site:

  1. Navigate to Publishing > SproutLink in Bio.
  2. Select the Instagram profile.
  3. Click Enable SproutLink.
  4. Click Customize site.

This opens the Site Builder, where you can:

  • Upload a logo
  • Add a custom button with a destination URL
  • Choose a layout (with or without a Hero section)
  • Add Hero text (up to 180 characters)
  • Upload a Hero image, or use both image and text

You can also delete your site at any time. Note that if you do this, the site is permanently deleted and can’t be retrieved.

How do I update my SproutLink URL

Sprout automatically detects changes to your Instagram username. If your handle changes, a banner will appear on the SproutLink in Bio page prompting you to update your URL.

You can also manually update your URL at any time:

  1. Go to SproutLink in Bio > Customize site.
  2. Click Show advanced settings.
  3. Select Refresh username. When you refresh the username, your current SproutLink URL immediately stops working, so be sure to update the link in your Instagram bio right away.

Note: SproutLink URLs must exactly match your Instagram handle. Custom link text is not supported.

You can preview your SproutLink site on both desktop and mobile. From the SproutLink in Bio tab, click Preview site. If something doesn’t look right, return to Customize site to make changes.

Note: The "Tap image to view link" banner always appears on your site and cannot be edited.

  4. In the Post Link field, enter the URL you want to associate with the post.
If you’re using UTM parameters, they’ll be automatically applied based on your link tracking rules.
  5. Press Enter or click outside the Post Link box to confirm the link.
  6. Schedule the post or send it through any Approval Workflows as needed.
  7. Click Submit or Schedule.

FAQs

How quickly do my posts appear on my SproutLink site?
Sprout automatically checks for new Instagram posts about five minutes after you tap Share to Instagram using the mobile workflow.
If your post doesn't appear after that time:

  • On mobile: Tap the checkmark icon under Notifications > Publishing.
  • On desktop: Go to the Instagram Notifications tab and manually set the post status to Complete.

What happens if I delete a post on Instagram directly?

If you delete a post natively in Instagram, Sprout will:

  • Hide the post from your SproutLink site.
  • Display a placeholder image for that post in the SproutLink in Bio tab.

Can Sprout automatically add my SproutLink URL to my Instagram bio?
No. Sprout doesn't automatically update your Instagram bio with your SproutLink URL.
To add it manually:

  1. Copy your SproutLink URL from the SproutLink in Bio tab.
  2. Go to Instagram > Settings > Edit Profile.
  3. Paste the URL into the Website field.
  4. Save your changes to make the link live.

What permissions do I need to use SproutLink in Bio?
To enable, customize, or delete a SproutLink site—and to add links to published Instagram posts—you need Full Publishing permission for that Instagram profile.

Why isn’t my Instagram profile picture updating on my SproutLink site?
Sprout only syncs your Instagram profile image during the initial creation of your SproutLink site. To update the logo:

  • Go to SproutLink in Bio > Customize Site.
  • Upload your new image manually in the Site Builder.

Can I add multiple links to a single Instagram post on my SproutLink site?
No. Currently, SproutLink supports one link per Instagram post.

Can I change the “Tap on an image to learn more” message on my SproutLink site?

Not at this time. The “Tap on an image to learn more” banner is fixed and cannot be customized.

Can Sprout import links from my previous link-in-bio tool?
No. Sprout doesn't automatically backfill links from other link-in-bio tools. However, you can easily:

  • Add links to historical Instagram posts from the SproutLink in Bio tab.
  • We recommend adding no more than 100 past posts, especially since most users view SproutLink pages on mobile.

Can I See SproutLink Interactions in Sprout Reports?
You can view the number of SproutLink clicks directly in the SproutLink in Bio tab by locating the post and checking the SproutLink Clicks count next to it.

Can I see what the monthly SproutLink click through numbers are rather than all time in my Sprout Reports?
The number of times users clicked on the links assigned to your posts via SproutLink is considered Lifetime Reporting Data and at the moment it can only be reported as an aggregate for the Publishing Period. This means that, while you cannot report on how many SproutLink Clicks you've received in a specific Reporting Date Range, you can see how many SproutLink Clicks all your posts gathered in a specific Publishing Period via the Post Performance Report.
