ChatGPT Integration FAQs
Table of Contents
The ChatGPT integration lets you ask natural language questions about your TikTok publishing and content performance data directly in ChatGPT — no report pulling or manual campaign comparison needed.
Note: Due to social network data-sharing policies, this integration currently provides TikTok data only. Ad data and data from other networks are not available. Write actions (e.g., creating posts from ChatGPT) are also not supported at this time.
Q: Who can set up the connection?
A: To set up the initial connection, you must be an Admin for both your ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Enterprise account and your Sprout Social account. Note: If the Sprout Admin who set up the connection is removed, the connection will stop working.
Q:Who can use the connection after it's set up?
A: Any licensed Sprout Social user on a Professional, Advanced, or Enterprise plan can use the connection. (Admin role is not required to use it.) You must also be a licensed user of a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Enterprise account. Note: Using the connection requires individual authentication to ensure your personal permissions are respected in both tools.
Q: What data is available in this ChatGPT connection?
A: The ChatGPT connection is only available for TikTok data, specifically for published insights and post performance metrics.
Q: How can a Sprout Admin enable the connection?
A: Any Sprout Admin can disable the ChatGPT connection for a group by going to the connection Center in Sprout Social: Settings > Global Features > AI Features > Toggle to “enabled
Q: I am trying to connect my Sprout Social account to ChatGPT via the MCP server, but I am receiving an OAuth metadata error. What does this mean?
A: If you receive the error message "Metadata error: OAuth metadata discovery failed... Caused by: OAuth authorization server issuer does not match authorization metadata origin," it means the Sprout MCP integration is blocking the authorization attempt. This specific error is triggered when the system detects the use of an unsupported, external command-line tool (such as Codex) to force the login.
Q: Why doesn't the connection work when I run codex mcp login sprout-social?
A: Sprout Social's MCP integration currently only supports a direct connection through the official ChatGPT desktop application. Codex is a separate, external tool and is not supported by Sprout MCP. When you attempt to authorize the connection using a Codex command, the Sprout server will reject the request and return the issuer mismatch error.
Q: The technical review mentioned a discrepancy in the public metadata between authorization_servers and issuer. Do these metadata parameters need to be fixed on Sprout's end?
A: No, this is expected behavior. The integration is functioning as designed. The mismatch error is safely generated to block unsupported external clients (like Codex) from authenticating, while allowing direct, in-app connections from the official ChatGPT client to proceed normally.
Q: Why can't ChatGPT answer questions about my Instagram (or other network) data?
A: The ChatGPT integration currently supports TikTok data only, specifically published-post insights and performance metrics. Network data availability depends on the operating and partnership agreement Sprout has with each individual social network, because of this, we're only able to provide TikTok data through this integration at this time.
Q: Can I connect Claude, Gemini, or other AI tools to Sprout using MCP?
A: Right now, Sprout's AI integration is built and supported for ChatGPT only. MCP is an open protocol, so you may see the MCP Server URL and wonder if it works with other AI tools — but we haven't built, tested, or documented support for connecting Claude, Gemini, or any AI product other than ChatGPT. Attempting to connect a different tool isn't officially supported and may not work as expected.
