Changes to X Video Uploads in Sprout Social

Table of Contents

Overview

X is updating its API, which means some of the special video capabilities previously available to "Pro Media" accounts are changing.

What's Changing?

The "Pro Media" profile type and its associated features are being retired. This includes:

  • The special "Play" icon on "Pro Media" profiles in Sprout Social's Compose tool.
  • The ability to upload media directly to the X Media Library.
  • Increased limits for video length (up to 10 minutes) and file size (up to 1 GB).
  • The ability to add a video title.

Features will be deployed throughout the week and will be available to all users by January 30th, 2026

New and Improved Video Uploads

  • Longer Videos for Premium Users: Users with an X Basic, Premium or Premium+ subscription can now upload significantly longer videos—up to 6 hours in length and 2 GB in file size. This is in addition to an up to 25k character post for Premium subscribers.
  • Verification Status Visible: You will now see the X verification status (Basic, Premium, or Premium+) displayed next to profiles in the profile picker within Sprout Social's Compose tool.
  • Custom Thumbnails: All users will now be able to upload custom thumbnails alongside their videos.

These changes impact all X publishers across all Sprout Social plans. If you previously relied on Pro Media features, you will now need to upgrade to X Premium or Premium+ to access extended video upload capabilities.
