Sales Tax FAQ

Customers who use cloud-based software may be subject to pay additional sales or use tax. The tax is similar to in-store sales tax, but instead of applying to items you purchase like clothing and electronics, the tax applies to your use of software accessed through cloud services.


Am I affected by the sales tax?

The tax is calculated based on your billing address. If your billing address falls in one of the following locations, your subscription will be subject to the tax:

United States

AZ
CT
DC
HI
IA
IL (City of Chicago)
KY 
MA
MD (Taxable from March 2022 - June 2022)
MS (Taxable from August 2022 - July 2023) 
NM
NY
OH
PA
RI
SC
SD
TN
TX
UT

VT
WA
WV

Canada

GST/HST applies to all Canadian organizations and will include both federal tax and taxes required by your province or territory.

South Africa

Mexico

How is tax being charged?

This tax will appear as a line item on your Sprout Social bill.

What should I do if I think I should be exempt from this tax?

If you believe you should be exempt or not subject to this tax, please contact billingteam@sproutsocial.com and forward any support available for your exemption (e.g. Tax Exemption Certificate, Small Business License).
