YouTube Shorts View Count Update - March 2025

Table of Contents

Starting March 31, 2025, YouTube updated how views are counted for Shorts. Previously, a view was only recorded after someone watched a Short for a few seconds. Going forward, a view will be counted each time a Short starts to play or replay, no minimum watch time required.

What this means in Sprout:

  • You may notice a higher view count for your YouTube Shorts moving forward
  • Historical Video Views data will remain available in your reports
  • YouTube’s new engagedViews metric, which reflects the previous view methodology, won’t be available in Sprout at this time

We’ll continue to monitor changes from YouTube and keep you updated on any future updates to metrics in Sprout.
