What happens when your Sprout Social trial ends

Table of Contents

If your Sprout Social trial ends and you haven't added a payment method to your account, your trial will simply expire on the set date. No further action is needed to cancel it — you're free to just allow the trial to lapse.

However, if you've added a payment method and no longer wish to continue with a paid subscription, you can deactivate your account by following these steps:

  1. Go to Account and Settings > Billing & Plan.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Deactivate Your Account (in red) to begin the deactivation process.

The dialogue will then guide you through the deactivation process. In some cases, you can cancel it directly through the platform, while in others, you may be directed to an account representative for assistance.

Please ensure you download any assets or reports you wish to save before the expiration date, as they'll no longer be accessible after that time.

FAQs

Will my scheduled posts still publish after my trial expires?
No. Once your trial expires, all scheduled posts will not be published. All publishing workflows — including Sprout Queue — will stop, and no further content will be sent to your connected social profiles.

What happens to my drafts and queued posts?
Drafts and queued posts will remain in your account until the trial data is permanently deleted (see data retention below), but they will not be published. If you convert to a paid subscription before your data is deleted, your drafts and queued content will still be available.

What happens to my reports and analytics data?
Once your trial expires, all reports, files, and profiles will be deactivated in Sprout. Data will no longer be collected. We recommend exporting any reports as PDF or CSV before your trial ends.

How long is my data retained after my trial ends?
Subscriber data is permanently deleted 30 days after the trial period ends. This includes account user data, connected social media profile data and content, and usage and engagement analytics. For more details, see the Data Retention Policy.

What if I decide to subscribe after my trial ends?
If you subscribe before your data is deleted (within 30 days), your existing data — including drafts, scheduled posts, and connected profiles — should still be available. After the 30-day retention window, all trial data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Will my social profiles be disconnected?
All profiles will be automatically disconnected from Sprout once your trial expires. If you later subscribe, you'll need to reconnect your social profiles.
