How do I upgrade my Facebook and Instagram‬ ‭profiles to be connected using Business Manager?‬

What is a Business Manager System User?

Your profiles are currently connected to Sprout Social using the credentials of an individual administrator. A Business Manager System User is a placeholder user representing Sprout Social as an integration with your Business. This placeholder user can be given access to profiles just like a real user. Rather than relying on a single administrator to be responsible for the stability of your Sprout Facebook and Instagram integrations, you can set up your integration using a System User.

Why upgrade?

Upgrading your Facebook and Instagram connections to use a Business Manager System User improves the stability and reliability of your Sprout Facebook and Instagram integrations. Your profiles stay connected to Sprout even if the administrator initially responsible for them changes a password, changes role in your organization or leaves your organization. When your profiles stay connected more reliably:

  • You avoid interrupting your campaigns and needing to recover failed scheduled posts
  • You ensure your metrics and listening topics are never interrupted in collection, so they stay accurate
  • You avoid interrupting your Care efforts and increasing your response times

A Business Manager System user also removes the need to reauthorize your Instagram profile every 90 days.

Are there any additional charges for this upgrade?

No! This upgrade is free for all Sprout customers.

What are the prerequisites?

  1. Your organization must have a Meta Business Manager
  2. Your Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Ad Accounts must be connected to that Business Manager as Assets.
  3. An administrator must be provisioned access to those Assets. 
  4. That administrator must have Manage Profiles permission in Sprout

That administrator may then upgrade Sprout Social to the Business Manager System User connection.

How do I upgrade?

  1. Navigate to Connect a Profile in your Sprout menu.  Please note, the upgrade lives in the Connect a Profile experience even though you’re not connecting a new profile.

  2. Select Facebook or Instagram.
  3. Proceed with Facebook Page, Facebook Ad Manager or Instagram Creator or Business profile connection.

  4. Click Go to Facebook to complete the initial authorization.
  5. In Select how you want Sprout to connect your profiles section, select Business Manager System User

  6. Locate the profiles you’d like to upgrade. For each, toggle Add additional credentials.

  7. Select Next to complete the upgrade process.
  8. Optional: Repeat this process for additional profile types, such as Facebook Ad Accounts, Facebook Pages and Instagram Business or Creator Profiles.
