Instagram Competitors Report

New to Sprout Social? Learn more about how our Instagram Competitor Report fits into our suite of competitive analysis tools here.

The Instagram Competitors Report enables you to track fundamental metrics for any Instagram profile and compare them against your own profiles. Use this report to benchmark your efforts against the average of the profiles you're comparing.

This report is available on Professional and Advanced plans, and you must have an Instagram Business Profile add-on connected to Sprout Social and have the Manage Competitor Profiles feature permission. To learn how to do this, see Converting and Reconnecting Instagram Business Profiles.

How Instagram Competitor Reporting Works

When you add an Instagram profile as a competitor, Sprout starts tracking the profile for changes in important activities like fan growth, posts and comments. Sprout then runs calculations to provide you with meaningful metrics. Once Sprout collects enough data to generate these metrics, you see them  in the report. This information is stored indefinitely, so in the future you can compare trends over time.

Tip: Post types are broken down by photos, videos and other. Other represents multi-image posts published to the Instagram profile.

You may notice additional messaging in the app to provide some clarity while data is gathering on the profiles you’ve added:

  • Tracking Activity: Sprout is gathering data about the connected profile(s). Activity is monitored and data is displayed as it becomes available. Depending on the section, data can be available in a few hours or a few days.
  • Incomplete Data: There is some data available about the profile(s) you’ve selected, but not for the entire date range.
