How do I use the Instagram mobile publishing workflow?

Use Sprout's Instagram mobile publishing workflow to post Instagram content on-the-go.

Using this workflow, create your posts in Sprout's desktop or mobile app, then assign a Mobile Publisher to publish the content to your Instagram account based on the time/day you specify. 

If you're posting a single photo or video, or Instagram Story WITHOUT Story Notes or Instagram app features, you don't need to use the mobile publishing workflow. Follow this how-to instead.

How do I schedule a Story via Sprout's desktop app?

To schedule an Instagram Story using Sprout’s desktop version:

  1. Open Compose.
  2. Select the Instagram profile you want to post a Story to from the Profile Picker. You can only select one Instagram profile.
  3. Toggle This is a story on.

  4. Click IG-mobile-add-image.pngto add more images or videos.
  5. Choose media from your desktop, Bynder, Canva, Dropbox or Google Drive.
  6. Select up to 10 photos or videos (up to 2 minutes 30 seconds) to add as the Story.
    • Video Extensions: .mp4, .mov, Max File Size: 650 MB, Max Length: 2.5 minutes
    • Image Extensions: .jpg, .png, Max File Size: 20 MiB
  7. Click IG-mobile-pencil-icon.png on the image and then click Add Mobile Publisher Notes.
  8. Add Mobile Publisher Notes and/or a Link Sticker URL for each Story frame.

  9. (Optional) Select an Approval Workflow in the Publishing Workflows section.
  10. Assign a Mobile Publisher if you're using Mobile Publisher Notes or want to use other creative tools in the Instagram app for your Story.

  11. Select the date and time you want to post the Story. Or create a Draft, Queue the Story or Send it right away.

  12. Click Schedule or Submit. Your Story is scheduled and appears on the Publishing Calendar.

How do I publish a Story with the iOS app?

To publish the Story on an iOS device:

  1. Tap the Story Push Notification you receive or navigate to Publishing > Reminders and tap on the Story you want to publish.

  2. Tap Continue to Instagram. A list of reminders appears.

  3. Review the reminders and then tap OK, I’m ready to post. The Instagram app opens.

    If you haven’t published using the app before, tap Allow Access to All Photos on the permission popup.

  4. Tap IG-mobile-Story-+-icon.png in the bottom left corner.
  5. Navigate back to the Sprout app and tap image1.png to copy and paste any Story Notes or Link Sticker URLs.
    • Paste Story Notes on the media.
    • Paste Link Sticker URLs into the Link Sticker option that Instagram provides for Stories.

  6. Tap image6.png in Instagram to post.

 

Instagram will preload the first piece of media from Sprout into a Story. To publish more than one piece of media, refer to this help article from Instagram.

How do I publish a Story using the Android app?

To publish the Story on an Android device:

  1. Tap the Push Notification you receive or navigate to Publishing > Reminders, and tap on the Story you want to publish.

  2. Tap Continue to Instagram. A list of reminders appears.

  3. Review the reminders and then tap OK, I’m ready to post. The Instagram app opens.
  4. Tap the + icon in the bottom center of the Instagram app to toggle to Story.
  5. Select the media from your device that was downloaded from Sprout.
  6. Navigate back to the Sprout app and tap image1.png to copy and paste any Story Notes or Link Sticker URLs.
    • Paste Story Notes on the media they correspond with.
    • Paste Link Sticker URLs into the Link Sticker option that Instagram provides for Stories.

  7. Tap image6.png in Instagram to post.
