Controlling Visibility in the Smart Inbox

Right Bar

The Right Bar allows you to control the visualization of the Smart Inbox, so you and your team can focus on the messages you need to see and prioritize responses accordingly.


Real-Time Activity Chart

The Real-Time Activity Chart at the top of the Right Bar helps you and your team visualize the number of messages you’ve received in the Smart Inbox. Additionally, as you work to address each of these messages, it provides immediate insight into your overall progress.

Understanding the Chart

The Real-Time Activity Chart is comprised of a set of bars. Gray bars indicate the number of remaining messages in your inbox. As you and your team mark messages complete, blue bars fill up the gray bars.


Any user with the Manage Message Status permission will see both gray and blue bars, allowing your front-line team members to understand how many messages they’ve received in total, and how close they are to reaching inbox zero.

Customizing Your Timeframe

The dropdown menu beneath the bars allows you to adjust the timeframe in your inbox.

  • 24 hours: see messages for the past day, displayed by hour
  • 7 days: see messages from the last week, displayed by day
  • 90 days: see messages from the past quarter, displayed by week


Additionally, hovering over a bar with your mouse cursor will reveal stats specific to that bar’s timeframe. Click on a bar to isolate and display only messages received during that timeframe.


Filter and Isolate

Below the Real-Time Activity Chart are filters for Profiles, Message Types and Brand Keywords relevant to your current group. These can be easily toggled to show or hide messages associated with each filter.


Note: Each user’s Smart Inbox is unique to their instance of Sprout, so toggling filters in your inbox won’t affect the experience of another. 

Isolation Mode

Isolation Mode allows you to quickly focus on a particular profile’s messages, or messages related to a specific Brand Keyword, without navigating away from the Smart Inbox.

To activate Isolation Mode, simply click on a profile’s name or on a Brand Keyword.


After isolating a profile’s messages, the Smart Inbox will display all available inbound messages up to the present time. To change the timeframe, click All Time at the top of the Right Bar and select a new date. The Smart Inbox will then only show messages from that date and prior.

View by Type allows you to toggle the view between All incoming messages or a specific message type.


To exit Isolation Mode, press Escape on your keyboard, or click the X icon in the upper-left corner.
