Influencer Marketing: How do I set up and use Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security that requires users to verify themselves using a second factor after entering their username and password. As part of Sprout Social Influencer Marketing's effort to be an industry leader in data security, you can choose between two methods of 2FA: SMS (text message) or an authenticator app.
With Influencer Marketing, your password serves as one factor and the second factor is a code sent either through text or generated by a mobile device.
How does 2FA work in Influencer Marketing?
When you log into Influencer Marketing, you’ll be asked for a second authenticating factor. Influencer Marketing supports two methods of 2FA:
- Text Message - A one-time token sent live to your verified phone number.
- Authenticator App - Time-based, one-time passwords (OTPs) generated by an application on your mobile phone.
Both methods use short, unique six digit codes that are valid for a short period of time.
How do I set up 2FA?
Any Influencer Marketing users, creators, or collaborators can configure 2FA for their accounts. To do so, navigate to User Settings then click Security.
Note: Influencer Marketing Admins can require 2FA as mandatory for the whole organization. Admins can learn more in this article.
1. Click your User Icon and then click User Settings.
2. Click Security.
3. Enter your Influencer Marketing password and click Next.
4. Select Two-Factor Authentication.
5. Select a 2FA method and click Continue:
- Text message
- Authenticator App
Set up 2FA via Text
1. Enter a valid phone number, including the country code, and click Next.
2. A text message with a six digit code will be sent to that phone number.
3. Enter the code into the Authenticator Code popup and click Next.
Note: If you did not receive your code, click Resend.
4. Save your recovery codes by clicking Download or Copy.
Note: You can use recovery codes to access your account if you can’t receive your two-factor authentication codes. There are eight codes and each can only be used once. Please download or copy these codes and store them in a secure place.
Text messages sent through this 2FA method are automatically translated by our SMS API provider based on the country code of your verified phone number.
Setup 2FA via authenticator app
To set up 2F using an authenticator app, you must have a smartphone with a two-factor app that supports OTP tokens. Examples of an authenticator app include:
- Google Authenticator (Android and iOS)
- Microsoft Authenticator (Android and iOS)
- OTP Auth (iOS)
1. Download the authentication app of your choice and click Continue.
2. Open the mobile app and use the phone camera to scan the QR code on Influencer Marketing.
- Alternatively, type in the secret code from under the QR code into the app.
This will generate a six digit code in the authenticator app.
3. Enter the code from the authenticator app into the Authenticator Code pop up. Click Next.
4. Save your recovery codes by clicking Download or Copy.
You can use recovery codes to access your account if you can’t receive your two-factor authentication codes. There are eight codes and each can only be used once. Please download or copy these codes and store them in a secure place.
2FA in action
Once 2FA is set up in Influencer Marketing, you’ll be prompted to enter a code using a second factor every time you attempt to log in.
If you don’t have access to the mobile device with your authenticator app or text messages, you can use one of the recovery codes to log in instead.
