Influencer Marketing: Why is a post missing from my Campaign or Report?

Table of Contents

Posts can be missing from a Campaign or Report for a variety of reasons. This article goes through the reasons why a post might be missing and what you can do to troubleshoot.

Campaign creator’s hiring status (Campaigns only)

One of the first things to check is to make sure that the creator is actually in the Campaign and has been hired. If you haven’t hired the creator, their posts won’t be pulled into Influencer Marketing.

Campaign or report start and end dates

Double check that a campaign or report’s start and end dates include the date range in which content was actually published.

In your Campaign, this can be found by navigating to Campaign Settings > General > Monitoring:

In a Report, this can be found in Report Settings > Parameters:

It’s important to consider the times set in your Campaign as well as your timezone as these can also impact the date and time range.

Monitoring settings and applied filters

There are a couple of nuances within the hashtags, keywords, phrases and brand mentions settings that could be why posts aren’t showing up in a campaign or report.

Remember, there is an OR logic between the hashtags, keywords and phrases settings and the brand mentions toggle. Posts with one or more hashtag, keyword or phrase OR with a proper brand mention would qualify for this logic.

Hashtags, keywords and phrases

  1. Does the post contain the relevant hashtags, keywords or phrases? Check to see if the post contains the specific hashtag, keyword, phrase or brand mention. If it doesn’t, the post won’t appear in your Campaign or Report.
  2. Are the hashtags, keywords or phrases entered correctly? Confirm the spelling and order of all terms are correct. Any misspellings can result in a missing post.
    • For example, accidentally writing “carefuly” or “carefullly” can result in posts not showing up in Influencer Marketing.
  3. Are the hashtags, keywords or phrases correctly organized in OR/AND logic? For more information on how Boolean logic works, please read our article on Boolean logic.

Brand mentions

Are the mentions correctly recognized? Confirm your understanding of how Mentions work for each social platform, as each platform operates slightly differently.

Rate limits

There are some limitations around how quickly posts are pulled into Influencer Marketing, affecting their visibility in Campaigns or Reports.

When a post is published on a social network, it's not always immediately passed through the platform APIs into Influencer Marketing and can take up to several hours for a post to show up in a Campaign or Report.

If a post was just published, allow some time to pass for the platform APIs to capture the post. If a post is still not appearing after 24 hours, reach out to the Support Team for further assistance.

Instagram: additional considerations

Instagram specifically has additional limitations to take into consideration. .

Story sticker and tap tag mentions

Instagram Story and Tag Mentions, such as sticker and tap tag mentions, are only captured in Influencer Marketing if the Instagram Story and Tag Mentions integration is enabled with the brand added.

For more information on how to enable the Instagram Story and Tag Mentions integration, read this article.

By default, Influencer Marketing doesn’t pull sticker or tap tag mentions via the Instagram/Meta API. These types of brand mentions won’t trigger posts to be pulled into a Campaign or Report.

In the example below, @nike was tagged in the photo using a tap tag mention. However, the caption doesn't include any hashtags, keywords or phrases (HKP) related to Nike and is unlikely to be visible in a Campaign.

Similarly, in the example below, @sapphiremedical was mentioned on an Instagram Story using a sticker mention. Without the Instagram Story and Tag Mentions integration enabled, this post would not be pulled into a Campaign where the parameter was set to recognize the @sapphiremedical mention.

This applies to both Brand Mentions parameters as well as hashtags, keywords, and phrases if a sticker is used.

Pre-saved and re-posted Stories

Pre-saved stories with text already on it won’t be recognized in Influencer Marketing because the text is embedded into the image and isn’t part of the Instagram caption. As a result, Influencer Marketing won’t recognize the text from the Instagram/Meta API.

Similarly, a re-posted Story from another creator or user won’t be visible in a Campaign or Report.

Both pre-saved and re-posted Stories won’t be pulled into Influencer Marketing due to these limitations.

Collaborative posts

Instagram allows users to create collaborative posts where more than one Instagram profile can be part of a single post.

However, collaborative posts always have a main profile designated as the original publisher. This publisher is the Instagram profile that authored and published the post whereas the other profiles are designated as tagged collaborators

Due to limitations with Instagram's API, Influencer Marketing only counts a collaborative post toward the original publisher but not for the tagged collaborators.

To identify the original publisher, look for the author of the post’s caption as seen below:

While this post appears in both Kroger's (@krogerco) and Joe Burrow's (@joeyb_9) Instagram profile, Kroger is the original publisher and Joe Burrow is the tagged collaborator.

In Influencer Marketing, this would only be ‌considered a post on Kroger's profile and not a post on Joe Burrow's profile. As a result, this post might be pulled into a Campaign that Joe Burrow belongs to because Influencer Marketing doesn’t recognize this post as his content.

24-hour Stories

Instagram Stories are only live for 24 hours before they expire and are archived, affecting whether or not a Story is pulled into Influencer Marketing.

For the Story to be fully captured in Influencer Marketing, the following criteria must be met while the Story is live:

  • The creator has opted-in to Influencer Marketing
  • The creator has been hired in the Campaign
  • The published Story contains hashtags, keywords or phrases included in the Monitoring settings of the Campaign

If a creator isn't authenticated or opted-in to Influencer Marketing and the Story expires, Influencer Marketing can’t retroactively retrieve this Story.

See the following resources to ensure a creator is signed-up and opted-in to Influencer Marketing:

Restricted posts

Certain content published on Instagram is considered restricted posts according to their Content Restriction policy. In these instances, the viewer must be of a certain age in order to see the content.

This most commonly applies to content containing restricted goods and services including content related to alcohol, tobacco, bladed weapons, weight loss products, cosmetic procedures, sex toys, sexual enhancement products, gambling or entheogens.

Due to Instagram/Meta API limitations, restricted content isn't available in Influencer Marketing by default. Creators must be opted into Influencer Marketing in order for their restricted posts to be visible in Campaigns or Reports. To confirm if a post is restricted, log out of Instagram and view the post. You should see the following screen if it’s restricted:

You can find Instagram/Meta's full policy on restricted goods and services here: Restricted Goods and Services (Meta)

Spacing in TikTok Mentions

Unlike other platforms, TikTok tags and mentions can’t include any spaces in the text.

For example, to tag the brand Duluth Trading Company’s Instagram profile, you’d write: @duluthtradingcompany.

On TikTok, mentions include spaces (Duluth Trading Company) while the profile handle may not include spaces (@duluthtradingcompany) like in the example below:

While the example shows the user @newbuild_newlyweds correctly tagged the brand on TikTok, the spacing isn’t passed through the TikTok API and Influencer Marketing doesn’t recognize this as a mention. In this instance, the mention would be registered as plaintext.

A workaround is to add the keyword “Duluth Trading Company” to your Campaign’s Monitoring settings or Report settings to capture the plaintext of the brand’s mention in TikTok.
