X API deprecation - September 2023
On September 20, 2023, X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer support several v1.1 API endpoints. As a result of this deprecation, several Sprout Social features will be changing.
Publishing
- You can tag users but will need to type the full username. You won’t be able to search for X usernames when tagging in Compose.
- You will no longer be able to add locations to your X posts in the web app or on mobile.
- X Pro Media users are temporarily unable to add titles to their videos.
Smart Inbox
- You can tag users but will need to type the full username. You won’t be able to search for X usernames in the Smart Inbox.
- The Mentions tab within the reply layer of the Smart Inbox for X messages will no longer be available in the web app or on mobile.
- Twitter Keyword Search and Twitter People Search will no longer be available in the web app or on mobile.
Reporting
You can add competitors but will need to type the full username. You won’t be able to search for X usernames in the Competitor Performance, Competitor Posts or Twitter Competitor reports.
Listening
- You can add users to your queries but will need to type the full username. You won’t be able to search for partial X usernames when creating Listening queries.
- The Twitter Search tab will no longer be available. You can still use X as a source in your Listening queries.
Other
Twitter Follower tools will no longer be available.
Mobile
For the best experience, update your Sprout mobile app.
- Twitter Location in Compose will no longer be available.
- Twitter Keyword Search and Twitter People Search will no longer be available.
- The Twitter Profile Mentions on the Twitter Profile Details screen will no longer be available in the Smart Inbox.
- You can tag users in Compose but will need to type the full username. You won’t be able to search for X usernames.

FAQs
What happens to my scheduled posts that already have a location?
Sprout will publish your posts with the location. You can still view the location for any posts that are tagged, but you won’t be able to search for new locations.
What happens to my scheduled posts that already have a mention?
Sprout will publish your posts with any user mentions. When you compose posts after the September 20 deprecation, you’ll need to type the full username.
Are Brand Keywords still available?
Yes, you can still use Brand Keywords in the Smart Inbox.
